hope that many will be able to attend and be
able to meet other foster parents and receive
support from them. We will also be discussing
what's new in the foster parent community and
provide you with the opportunity to earn ongoing
training hours to meet your 9 hour requirement
for continuing education.

1. Training title:
Developmental Play for Young Children
Date of training: 11-13-08
This workshop will focus on
understanding the types of play young
children engage in and how adults
support them in their cognitive and
emotional growth through play. This will
be hands on workshop
2. Training title:
Parenting Approaches to Address
Emotional and Behavioral Problems in
Young Children
Date of training: 1-22-09
This workshop will focus on parenting
methods that allow parents to work more
effectively with emotional and
behavioral problems of young children.
We will cover ways to increase parental
awareness and reduce emotional
reactivity/ distress of parents through
mindfulness. The maximum number of
parents for this training is 20.
3. Training title:
Understanding Depression in Young
Children
Date of training: 3-19-09
This workshop will look at depression,
grief/bereavement, and separation and
loss in very young children (6 months to
5 years). We will review characteristics
of depression, symptoms observed in
young children, impact of the
parent-child relationship on children
who are depressed, and the impact of
separation/loss on the emotional life of
young children.
4. Training title:
Prenatal and Postpartum: Dynamics of
Early Relationship Formation
Date of training: 5-21-09
This workshop will focus on two specific
time periods, prenatal and postpartum,
to examine the development of the
parent-child relationship. We will cover
prenatal psychology for parents and
fetus, mental heath issues that may
impact upon pregnancy, postpartum mental
health problems, neurobehavioral
problems of neonates/infants, and the
formation of the parent-child attachment
in its earliest phases (birth to 6
months).
5. Training title:
Parent-Child Interaction between
Parents and Young Children
Date of training: 7-23-09
This workshop will look at the dynamics
of parent-child interaction between
parents and very young children. We will
examine the following components of
parent-child interaction: communication
(verbal and non-vernal), scaffolding,
meaning attribution, gestures, engage
and relate, attunement/mis-attunement,
developmental play during interaction,
limit setting with empathy, shared
positive emotions, hostile-intrusive and
threatening behaviors during
interaction.
6. Training title:
Personality Disorders and Their
Impact on Parenting
Date of training: 9-17-09
This workshop will review the major
personality disorders and the impact
they have on parenting and the
parent-child relationships. We will look
at the impact of these disorders on the
attachment process between parents and
young children
